FRIENDS AS A 90S FASHION INSPO

DENIZ AKKAYA

While waiting for the reunion special episode to be aired on May 27, we had to look through the looks of the series over the course of 10 seasons!

After months of rumors, it was confirmed last week that the Friends actors reunited and the special reunion episode will air later this month. To celebrate the sitcom’s 25th anniversary, all of the Friends stars will come together; We’ll see Rachel, Phoebe, Monica, Joey, Chandler and Ross together again! The reunion episode,” The One Where they Get Back Together, ” will air on HBO Max on May 27.

If you’re like us and have begun to rewatch old episodes for the ten millionth time, you probably haven’t been able to take your eyes off Rachel Green’s looks! Although Jennifer Aniston stands out with the character of Rachel Green, in general, in the series, it is possible to see the reflections of each character today. When you start watching the series again, you realize that you will see the styles of the characters within 10 minutes you spend on TikTok. Animal prints, colorful, oversized pieces; mom jeans, leather pants….

When reviewing the 10 seasons of Friends, there is more to the eye than outdated gender roles and corny jokes… a huge fashion inspiration. The series has undeniably affected the fashion of the period it was on air, and its effects are still reflected today. The wardrobe of the series, which took place in the early 90s, fully reflects the mood of the period we are passionately trying to capture in today’s fashion world. Loose silhouettes, neutral tones and knitwear take center stage, becoming a treasure trove for everyday style inspiration.

Even though Rachel is working in the field of fashion, the men of the show are nothing short of her. Ross, Joey, and Chandler have always caught the perfect balance of relaxed and effortless style that we’ve still been trying to emulate for almost two decades.

Friends’ men are also wardrobe inspiration, with Chandler’s passion for sweater vests and oversized shirts, Ross’s jeans and footwear game, and Joey’s classic sports jerseys and layered looks.

We see Monica in a more androgynous style in the early seasons of the series, often rocking mom jeans, tight tops and oversized lumberjack shirts. Monica is exactly the cool girl of the 90s with her less is more, simple and sexy style!

Rachel, on the other hand, is a character that we can’t get enough of seeing her work clothes. No need to go to anyone other than Ms. Green for some miniskirt and leather boots inspiration!

Phoebe, on the other hand, has a quirky, unique wardrobe that we still can’t get enough of today. Phoebe is the weirdo we should all have in our lives, and it’s safe to say that her style remains the most consistent throughout the series. We always see Phoebe, who has a fun, hippie style, in colorful oversized coats, long dresses and cardigans.  Phoebe, who always complements her looks with many rings and hairpins, can be called the literal meaning of boho-chic style with its modern name.

In addition to blessing viewers with some of the funniest jokes in TV history, Friends also gave us countless unforgettable fashion moments; some of them are slip dresses and normcore denim … Six friends living in unusually large apartments in New York City, the epicenter of fashion, can inspire our wardrobe choices even today. Maybe this will inspire you to dig in your closet to re-wear the forgotten pieces of the ’90s, or at least make you understand the comeback of mom jeans and scrunchies.
