As the Lunar New Year approaches, brands get celebration ready with Year of the Tiger collections that Joe Exotic would be psyched about. Burberry, Gucci, Prada, Balenciaga and more celebrate the year of the Tiger with Lunar New Year fashions…

We’re 10 days into 2022, however, there’s still one more new year on the horizon. New Lunar Year is the most important holiday in China. The New Lunar Year, which coincides with February 1st this year, is traditionally celebrated to honor the family, celestial gods and ancestors. The parameters of the Chinese calendar are determined by lunar phases, solar solstices and equinoxes. Yin and yang, which are essential for a harmonious world, opposite but complementary principles, are also elements that rule the calendar. The new lunar year, which will begin on February 1st, is happening this year in the sign of the tiger. The king of the jungle is reigning supreme in 2022!

What does the Tiger mean?

The Chinese Zodiac dates back to the Qin Dynasty over 2000 years ago and is rooted in a system of zoolatry (or animal worship). As the legend goes, the Jade Emperor challenged all the animals in the Kingdom to a “Great Race.” Whoever arrived at his palace first would win his favor. The Tiger was sure that he had the race in the bag, but ended up placing third after the cunning Rat and workhorse Ox snuck in ahead of him. Thus, Tigers are extremely competitive people, known for their courage and ambition. Tigers are ambitious, but they’re also extremely generous with a drive to help others. Tigers want to win but they’re also always seeking justice.

A number of luxury labels have fully adopted the spirit of celebration for this powerful year ahead, releasing tiger-themed capsule collections. Meet this year’s new tiger kings!
