“When you’re younger, everything feels so permanent,” Rue says in the new 30-second clip. “But as you get older, you realize nothing is.” While the teaser only gives us little glances of what happens this season, it looks like we’re in for a birthday party, a lot of iconic looks, and of course, a LOAD of serious drama!

WHAT HAPPENED IN SEASON 1?

Season 1 premiered in June 2019 and fans have been eagerly awaiting season 2 ever since. Season 1 left us with a series of unanswered questions. Here’s where we last left Rue and the gang.

RUE: When Euphoria begins, Rue is returning to home and school after a stint in rehab and soon meets the new girl in town, Jules. Rue and Jules strike up an instant connection, which straddles the line between friendship and romance. In the Season 1 finale, Rue suggests to Jules that they leave town and run away together. Although Jules goes to the train station, Rue can’t bring herself to follow through on her own impulsive idea.

JULES: Jules strikes up an online flirtation with a boy named Tyler and agrees to meet him at the impending carnival. While there, Jules realizes that the man she hooked up with is Cal, Nate’s father. Additionally, it turns out that “Tyler” is none other than Nate himself. Then after series of events Jules to run away with her, Jules agrees… but when Rue doesn’t show up at the station, Jules boards the train and leaves town anyway.

NATE: When Nate was 11, he discovered videos his father Cal kept in his office of himself having sex with underage trans women and gay men, which led to a very complicated relationship with his father. When Rue confronts Nate about his blackmailing of Jules and the truth about his father, Nate quickly cuts her down by leveraging her insecurity over her relationship with Jules, resulting in Rue backing out of their getaway plan.

MADDY: Maddy is in a highly toxic relationship with Nate. Maddy snoops around Nate’s room while he’s in the shower and finds a video. Watching it later, she’s horrified to see it’s the film of Cal having sex with Jules.

CASSIE: After she goes to a college party with McKay and witnesses him being hazed, he takes his anger out on Cassie by having aggressive sex with her. When she discovers she’s pregnant, McKay instantly suggests that she shouldn’t keep the baby. In the finale, Cassie goes to a clinic with her surprisingly supportive mother and terminates the pregnancy.

WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN IN SEASON 2?

To bridge the long gap between seasons 1 and 2, Euphoria released two one-off special episodes on December 2020 and January 2021. Both episodes are heartbreaking and viewers can expect similar from season 2, as Zendaya shared with Teen Vogue, “I think this season is not going to be easy, though, Zendaya said. “It’s not going to be a fun watch, I don’t think, sometimes.”

THE CAST

All of the show’s main characters will be back for season 2, meaning Rue, Jules, Kat, Maddy, Cassie, and Nate. Season two will introduce at least three new cast members to the show: Dominic Fike, Minka Kelly and rapper Lil Meech.
