WHO LET THE CROCS OUT!?

Not these ‘ugly’ plastic clogs making a comeback!

We all probably have a pair of Crocs that we’ve been ashamed to wear outside the house for years. Although they have expanded their range from sandals to clogs, from boots to flat shoes since they were founded in 2002, they have not received the respect they want until these past three years. So what happened to these ‘ugly’ plastic clogs as they are the most popular and a hit trend now?

In 2016, Scottish designer Christopher Kane realized the potential of Crocs and added a luxurious twist to these clogs for the 2017 Spring/Summer collection. The luxurious versions, which differ in patterns and Jibbitz from classic monochrome models, were highly appreciated. These clogs, which were mainly preferred by nurses in hospitals until then, brought a new inspiration to the fashion world.

Obviously, they liked the idea of collaboration and innovation, and this initiative was so successful, in February 2018, in a joint effort with Balenciaga, pink platform clogs went on sale for $850. This partnership in particular has definitely increased the respect for Crocs in the fashion world, and although the price was $850, these platform clogs sold out in minutes! It’s not embarrassing to wear Crocs anymore, as a matter of fact, everybody needs a pair of these stylish comfortable clogs! It seems like some celebrities like Kanye West found inspiration in these plastic clogs because they started to create their own plastic slippers and other models!

After the very successful partnership with Balenciaga, Crocs continues their cooperations with other brands decisively. The famous rapper Post Malone, who does not hide his sympathy for the Crocs brand, first seized this opportunity in 2018, and put on sale their first collaboration model the Dimitri Clog and 6 special Jibbitz. Especially after the models created by Cristopher Kane, these special jewelery called Jibbitz also started to attract as much attention as the clogs themselves. Post Malone must indeed be a big fan of Crocs, because they have released exactly five different models together until now. Duet Max Clog II, the newest model, is sold out of stocks just like the other models in minutes. His fans are as interested in these special Crocs as Post Malone.

After 2018, Crocs started to collaborate not only with Post Malone, but with many artists. The ability of Crocs to adapt so comfortably and creatively to personalities is undoubtedly the basis of these collaborations, because each artist designed and changed the straight monochrome classic models into art pieces according to their own taste and character. Various brands, such as Chinatown Market, PizzaSlime, Pleasures and Barney’s New York, have added their aesthetic perception and creativity to these collaborations – and they have done a splendid job!

Congratulations to the Crocs public relations team, they know how to make ordinary plastic clogs a trend that gets sold out the moment they go on sale!
