RAINBOW REVOLUTION

DENIZ AKKAYA

During these dark times, we invite you to have a look at the Rainbow Revolution!

British-born photographer Magnus Hastings photographed drag queens in various poses and in unfamiliar environments in his photo book “Why Drag?”  revolutionized the art scene. Hastings achieved international fame after Sir Elton John called the book “the best photo book I have seen in recent years”.

Now Hastings is returning with Rainbow Revolution, a photo essay that chronicles different aspects of the LGBTQ community. The project consists of photographing queer icons in a white canvas box.

In the photos, you can also see names that have inspired the queer community, such as Kathy Griffin and Luke Evans. That is, the project includes not only queer individuals, but also famous names who have contributed to the queer culture.

Rainbow Revolution is not only a” collection of vivid portraits celebrating the widening range of queer identity and visibility, ” but also offers the reader real life stories about the hardships and triumphs experienced by LGBTQ individuals. Each model is photographed in an empty white box where they can express themselves comfortably.

Although there are many famous names among the participants of the project, the most popular works are the pieces with people from all walks of life such as doctors, dentists, writers, dancers and athletes. Each piece represents the most courageous moments of these brave people’s lives.

Rainbow Revolution was released on November 24 with more than 300 photos, if you are looking for a coffee table book, we recommend that you definitely check this one out.
