EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT EUPHORIA SEASON 2

DENIZ AKKAYA

The second season of Euphoria, which made Zendaya an Emmy Award-winning actress and made an undeniable impact on the beauty and fashion industry, is eagerly awaited!

The fans of the series have been impatiently waiting for the season 2, but due to COVID-19 this wait has turned out to be much longer than usual.

Filming was cancelled with the arrival of quarantine restrictions across the country, just days after the cast was reunited to film the second season. Due to COVID-19, filming of many series were postponed indefinitely. But the good news is: Euphoria’s season 2 table readings have officially begun! Fortunately, before the 2nd season, we were able to satisfy our longing for the series with 2 special episodes featuring Zendaya and Hunter Schafer.

The series, directed and written by Sam Levinson, became a hit shortly after its airing on HBO. The series reveals the lives of high school students with all their reality. Sam creates this reality using elements of drugs, sex, friendship, love, trauma, and self-identity.

All of the characters in the series are experiencing certain painful events and grappling with their trauma. Although not as dramatically as the series, we all experienced a number of things in 2020 and now we all have a better understanding of the characters’ turmoils. The phobia against the virus and the traumas we experienced with the virus have led to an incredible increase in mental health problems. Euphoria not only gives a depiction of all the dark elements in the life of a teenager, but also presents these elements in such a real way that the viewer can relate to. Let’s give the good news to the fans of the series: Euphoria is coming back this year! Although we still don’t have a clear date for season 2, it has been confirmed that it will be released in late 2021 or early 2022.

As we can see from Zendaya’s Instagram stories, filming of season 2 already have started.

However, everyone is keeping their mouth shut about the details of the season. When asked about the storyline of the new season, Zendaya said it’s “beautiful”. Zendaya’s amazingly descriptive response may be due to both the excitement and mystery to be created around season 2, as well as the fact that Sam Levinson is known to rewrite his scripts over and over again. Sydney Sweeney, who plays the character Cassie, also said in an interview that she was literally shocked while reading the season 2 script, “My heart dropped as I read the script.” It is obvious that Cassie is about to go through some difficult times. Sydney also mentioned thinking about how these can come from a person’s mind, while reading the script. This is exactly why Sam Levinson made his big break out last year!

Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, Algee Smith, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Maude Apatow and Storm Reid remains in the cast of season 2, while actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. will join the cast for the new season with an unknown role. The actor was actually expected to be in season 1 as well. However, due to schedule differences, he could not participate in the season. As a result, Levinson created a new main character in the script for him. In an interview with The Face in October 2020, Kelvin said, “Sam is still trying to figure it out. But as far as I can tell from the table readings, this character is not like any character I’ve ever watched on screen before.” Levinson also said in an interview with GQ, “I don’t know how to really describe this character. But I would say Kelvin is one of the best actors working right now,” he said.
